Cathy Cauthen

Vice President - Legal

As Vice President – Legal, Cathy Cauthen provides counsel to both the transaction- and operations-oriented departments at EDENS, including in the areas of lease and other contract negotiation, risk management, litigation strategy, oversight and management, third-party dispute resolution, policy and procedure development, and compliance.

Cathy joined EDENS in 2004, bringing a broad range of legal experience, gained over eleven years in private practice. During this time, Cathy handled real estate matters of all types, including closings for multi-million dollar loans and property acquisitions and dispositions, and negotiating leases and other real estate contracts. In addition, Cathy represented clients in an array of litigation matters, including defending commercial contract and product liability actions, as well as handling insurance defense, subrogation and bad-faith claims. She also handled appeals in both State and Federal appellate courts, including an appeal to the Supreme Court of the United States.

Cathy is admitted to the bars of both South Carolina and Georgia, having earned her law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Clemson University. She has been awarded a Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rating of AV Preeminent® and is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and Association of Corporate Counsel. Cathy also is active in her community, including serving as board chair for S.C. Appleseed Legal Justice Center and for Palmetto Health Cancer Centers.
